Blake passed away on Tuesday 14th June. He died very suddenly doing one of the things he loved best, running about and barking in the garden with Daisy. He had not been ill so it was a tremendous shock for all of us.
He had only been with us for six years but in that time he had become a much loved member of our family.
We adopted Blake as a companion for Daisy, this was a job he excelled at. He showed her how to be a dog, and to live life to the full just like he did.
Blake did everything at full speed, and he gave back the love we gave him a million times over in so many ways. When we decided to become foster carers and started to look after our first foster child in February 2010 he helped him to settle in, and Blake became a companion to him as he was to Daisy.
Here is the poem our he wrote for Daisy and Blake (this was published in the Homer magazine):
I have two greyhounds called DAISY and BLAKE
They like biscuits, and I like cake.
They sleep all day while I am at school,
they know my home time which is really cool.
Daisy is shy, a bit like me,
sometimes we got so scared we need a wee
She made me welcome when I came,
One day me and her shall rise to fame.
Blake is different, he's never shy,
He's really quite smelly a typical guy.
He's a cowardly custard, he's scared of the cat
Who cunning and smart, but a little bit fat.
And so this poem has come to an end
Goodbye from Daisy, Blake and their best friend.
CJ age 12.
We think he summed Blake up quite well, and although he did pong a bit we still loved him.
Thank you for your help with finding Daisy a new companion. Blake is a hard act to follow but Billy is doing it his way and making a very good job of it. Our foster children think he's great. As for the cat, well that's another story just watch this space
