We picked Bobby up from the kennels on 23rd December - four years, eight months and four days ago. He was almost nine years old.
Having looked at him on the website quite a few times, I just couldn't resist his "goggly eyes". When he was still there after some time, I just knew that he was meant to be part of my pack. When I visited the kennels it was just Bobby that I wanted to see.
At that time I had recently lost my 14 year old dog Benji, who was my first greyhound Sophie's companion. She was the girl who started my greyhound addiction and I didn't want her to be lonely.
Bobby settled in quickly and enjoyed his first Christmas with us, particularly his Christmas lunch. He never could settle when he could smell beef cooking and always used to hang around the kitchen or would follow me to the kitchen every time I went in
He greeted me at the bottom of the stairs each and every morning, with a toy in his mouth, tail wagging and waiting for a big fuss. I got the same greeting whenever I got home from work and sometimes even if I popped upstairs for a minute. When I left for work, he would head towards the kitchen door, he knew he always got a treat before I left.
He would work his way around a room, no matter how many people in it demanding a fuss from each one in turn. He loved to lay his head on your lap and have his neck stroked.
The end of Bobbys life came very suddenly at the age of 13 years and 7 months. We were on holiday in Barmouth. Bobby was sick a couple of times yesterday morning (Friday), so we decided to bring him home late afternoon yesterday. Once home he seemed to get weaker during the night and this morning though it broke my heart, I knew I had to let him go, I just love him too much to let him suffer. He was a fantastic, special and lovely boy and we love him dearly. We will miss him every day, the house just isn't the same without him, but we have happy memories and in knowing that we gave him a good life. He made us happy and we made him happy. No matter how long we have them in our lives, it is just never long enough.
We are so glad that we were on holiday this week and got to spend every almost every minute of each day with him. The last couple of nights he even decided he was going to sleep with us, so we pulled him in and covered him with the duvet. It was as if he knew before we did what was going to happen and wanted to be close as he could to us.
I have attached a couple of photos of him from our holiday, one of him relaxing greyhound style on his bed in the tent and one of him on the beach which was taken only yesterday before he got really poorly.
Nite nite Bobby my darling boy, we will always love and miss you so much. Life won't be the same without you.
