After the slow start to the year in terms of rehoming, as we said in last week’s news, things have picked up and this last week several hounds have found their new homes and families. These...

We have now had ‘Beanie Boo’ for 7 weeks, but it feels like she has always been here. We were very lucky, as she had absolutely no accidents in the house and only cried for 20 minutes the first night she stayed. She is now like an old shoe around the house, even taking herself to bed when we put her nightlight on - but every day her outlook is getting younger and younger!

When we first had ‘the Bean’ she was very quiet and shy, not too interested in meeting people or other dogs – and not all that interested in getting out of bed in the morning. She was presented with toys, a squeaky duck and a goose and had absolutely no idea what to do with them.... Oh, how she has changed!

The same shy little hound now has playing down to a fine art – we see her leap and bounce on her duck and goose and we know it’s time to play. We let her out into the garden and she whizzes around and around, throwing her duck over her head and catching it, with a few play bows in between! An absolute joy to see – her face is full of laughter as she does circuit after circuit at 100 miles an hour!! And then - you’ve guessed it, she comes in the house and collapses on her bed, puffing and panting.
This weekend (her 4th birthday) she had a real treat, we decided it was time to try letting her off the lead! We took her to ‘The Edge’, a huge common near us, and met up with our friends. Beanie leapt out of the car to be greeted by her walking buddy ‘Harvey’ the puppy cockerpoo, and to meet for the first time ‘Kaiser’ the puppy dobermann and ‘Doogie’ the puppy red setter!! My hubby and I had our fingers crossed that all would go well and that the Bean (muzzled) would be well behaved.... Well it went like this – the 4 dogs stood together, the leads came off and away they dashed! A mish mash of legs and noses, but most importantly 4 wagging tails – and a helicopter tail in the middle belonging to Beanie! She had the best hour ever! The 4 of them set off together running after balls and greeting every other dog they met with happy wagging! It was fantastic to see Beanie racing around, showing the others how to really run! She dashed up to every dog she met – including the pack of 15!!! Otterhounds that we encountered! She was brilliantly behaved, so much so that we returned the next day with Harvey and did it all again – but unmuzzled, and no problems at all.
So the quiet, shy, lethargic dog that we collected from Alison, Andy and friends, 7 weeks ago, has now become a super friendly, energetic, happy girl. She dashes to the front door, with tail wagging, when anybody arrives, and is now very confused when we are out walking if people don’t show any interest in fussing her. She really is a super fantastic pooch who has changed our lives, so much so that we are already eyeing up another one, maybe a big strong boy..... She likes the boys after all!
