Kennel News - 16 May 2010

We have been keeping the vets busy this week with 5 hounds being neutered and then arriving for their time with us. We had a bit of an emergency when Kay spotted that Kirsty had blood seeping from her wound. She was immediately whisked back to the vets and they kept a close eye on her for the next 24 hours. She also had lots of bruising and was very sore; this can happen if the female has had her season suppressed. She is back with us now and is doing well. You can see her (and the other new residents) on the "Adopt a Greyhound" page.

We also have 4 bleeding tails. Megan, Bobby, Sadie and Lucie have the ends of their tails wrapped up to protect them from wagging them against the kennel wall, indeed Lucie has had the end of hers removed at the vets as it was not looking good. We have antibiotics and painkillers listed on the kennel board for all these and the neutering patients. You can imagine how long the list is!

Chester is back with us as he is still lame on that front leg. A piece of glass was removed from one toe joint and that has healed well but he is still holding it up when walked on hard surfaces. He is going back to the vets tomorrow.

Billy, the old boy of the kennels, who will be 13 next month, has responded well to the Prednisolone that Tom prescribed for him. His breathing is much easier and the muscle soreness is much improved.

As many of our regular supporters are aware, last year saw the first ever June Pounds for Hounds campaign. This is the main fund raiser of the year and it is almost upon us. This year's theme is Tea for Two and we are asking families to get together and have a collection for our hounds. The website will have a dedicated section with ideas, downloadable word searches etc. Please start to think of ideas - you could have a dress down at work, make the coffee for your workmates for a week and be sponsored, put a collection pot on your desk and ask your work colleagues to bring their loose change from home etc, etc . You will be able to have your event and workplace, listed on the website.

We are also having a summer raffle with fantastic donated prizes. Do you fancy Tea for Two at the London Ritz? Buy some of our tickets. There will be more news over the following weeks but please, if you are able to support the hounds in our care by organising an event, start thinking now.
The planned events are shown on the events page.
