Kennel News - 30 May 2010

June is here......almost, and the £'s for Hounds fundraising month has started in earnest at the kennels.  Each weekend in June, weather permitting, we shall have the field open for galloping and nail clipping.  Some days we will have tombolas on the go and on others tea and coffee, so bring some change with you please!

All of the exciting details and events are on the special £’s for Hounds web pages.  The idea is to have one month of frantic fundraising, which means that for the rest of the year we can simply concentrate on the care of the Greyhounds.

The kennels are co-ordinating the month-long raffle.  Take a look at the fabulous prizes that have been donated.  If you e-mail us at kennels@rgtwolverhampton.co.uk we will send you a book of ten raffle tickets to sell on our behalf.  A return envelope will be enclosed for your convenience.

The rest of the kennel news this week is mostly good.  The split tails are on the mend with all of them now unwrapped.  They just require daily maintenance with Dermisol cream to keep the wounds clean and medicated.

Chester popped in with his owner to let us see that his foot is healing well after his toe was removed.  He is still a little sore on that foot so we are unsure at this stage if the problem is completely sorted.

Gino and Lauren, who were recently neutered, both had post-op swelling and these have had to be iced every day to help reduce the fluid.  Both hounds are now much improved.

Poor Jack, one of the resident retired hounds owned by the family, has an abscess on a back tooth and has had a funny shaped face.  He has had a few days of anti-biotics and the swelling is going down, but he is off to the vets on Wednesday for a dental treatment.  He may have this abscess, but it has not stopped his antics around the kennel, nipping volunteers’ sleeves and jumping about when they try to get him out of the paddocks.  Everyone, except the family, is a game for Jack!!

A busy week is approaching with lots going on.  Andy will be at Lichfield Bower on Bank Holiday Monday and Alison will be at the Stadium after kennel duties.  On Wednesday and Thursday we will be at Stafford County Show, and next Saturday (5th June) Andy is taking the trailer to the Great Greyhound Extravaganza in Newmarket – see the events page for details.  That same evening marks the Owners’ Sponsor Night at the Stadium, so there will be lots of news for you next week.

That's all for now folks!!! More kennel news next week.
